Gornal Ladies had to switch this tie from their normal home pitch at the Mile Flat to Coseley School due to a fixture clash however it only took 5 minutes for Gornal to race into a 2-0 lead with Levi Cheadle bringing down a the goalkeepers kick before racing through to hit a 20 yard shot into the top corner quickly followed by Rachel Letford turning the defender and hitting the same corner.
Although Gornal dominated the half registering 18 shots at goal despite a lot of last ditch defending by Rubery, it was not until the 40th minute that Gornal scored their third goal with a corner kick taken by Levi Cheadle being partially cleared before Tracey Haycock fed back to Levi Cheadle whose shot from the left wing went straight in the top right hand corner beating the keeper and the defender on the line.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Gornal dominating possession and territory. On 55 minutes central defender Keisha Sasa’s strong challenge won the ball just inside the Rubery half. She took it forward before hitting a superb thirty yard strike which flew into the top corner.
Again a mixture of dogged defending by Rubery and poor finishing from Gornal forwards kept the score at 4-0 until the 80th minute when Gornals flying winger Siobhan Peplow raced past the Rubery defence and played the ball across the face of the goal for Charlotte Byatt to score with a simple tap in from 2 yards out.
The final goal came three minutes later as this time Siobhan Peplow played a through ball between central defenders for Rachel Letford to drive through playing the ball low and hard into the corner to make the final score 6-0 to Gornal.
Player of the match was awarded to Emily Green who, along with the rest of the defence, limited the Rubery attack to just one off target effort.
