Weetabix Wildcats

Welcome to SGUFC Weetabix Wildcats

Are you a girl currently in reception, Year 1, 2, 3 or 4 and looking for a fun way to get involved in playing football? Our Weetabix Wildcats centres is the place to be where everyone is friendly from the friends you will meet from other schools to the FA qualified coaches and admin staff who will be delivering the sessions.

Weetabix Wildcats sessions are designed to be non competitive football concentrating on learning skills  for girls who perhaps want to try football for the very first time or those who have participated in some sessions at school and wish to practice more and possibly join a team in the future.

Most importantly its about developing fundamental skills , learning football basics whilst having fun and meeting new friends which will create the foundations to enjoy a lifelong love of sport.

Girls who join these sessions will be able to continue training with Sedgley and Gornal United FC and will also be eligible to join a competitive league team in future.

Why is it important?

Statistically young female footballers reported higher levels of confidence, self-esteem, wellbeing, and motivation than girls who play no sport at all. More powerfully, young girls who play football also reported higher scores than those girls who play other sports. Crucially, the benefits of playing football extend off the pitch as well. Female footballers confirm that football helped them to solve problems, deal with pressure at school/work, and feel empowered to overcome difficulties. The results make a compelling case: if you want girls to feel more confident, get them playing football.

Bishop Milner Wildcats 2022-23

Sedgley and Gornal United FC Weetabix Wildcats centre – Gornal

We have now been running our Wildcats centre for 5 years and have seen many girls pass through from local schools, many of which are now playing in our U12, U10 and U8 girls teams in the Stourbridge and District Girls Football League and have passed a number of players on to other local teams where we have been able to accomodate in our own sides. Our sessions are currently held at Bishop Milner School, Burton Road, Dudley on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. During the Winter months, October – April sessions are run in the sports hall and during Summer out on 3G.

Our primary catchment area is the North of Dudley Borough and East Wolverhampton although we have had girls attend from further afield.

We would hope that girls are inspired to engage in football, meet new friends, develop fundamental skills which will create the foundation of a lifelong love of football.

If you have any questions regarding these sessions please use our contact form and someone will get back to you

New Wildcats centre for 2023

Sessions will be primarily game based developing girls ABC’s (agility, balance and co ordination) which will help participate in all sports. Wildcats is a good way of developing fitness in young girls and places a lot of emphasis both on individual skills development as well as teamwork.

Sessions throughout the winter will be indoors in the Sports Hall from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm every Thursday.

All attendees will be eligible to join competitive teams within the club if they wish to do so.
