This is the first ever meeting between the two sides with both teams having gained promotion into the regional leagues from their respective county leagues last season.
From the off Kidderminster closed down Gornal quickly and this kept the Gornal forwards starved of the ball for the first ten minutes when a long ball from Gornal goalkeeper Chloe Edwards set Sarah Lokjo free, her shot beat the Kidderminster goal keeper but was just the wrong side of the post.
Shortly afterwards Lokjo chased down the ball and robbed the Kidderminster defender but shot straight into the midriff of the Kidderminster keeper from a tight angle. It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that Kidderminster had their first meaningful attempt on goal when Anne Johnson outpaced Gornal fullback Natalie Galway but her shot from 20 yards was comfortably held by Edwards.
On 24 minutes a free kick taken by Lokjo 25 yards out was headed off the line by Kidderminster midfielder Chloe Evans.
Kidderminster managed to get the breakthrough on 35 minutes when a quickly taken throw in was helped on and Kidderminster striker Anne Johnson lobbed the ball over keeper Edwards.
The goal galvanised Kidderminster who stepped up the pace and twice could have gone further ahead with chances from just a couple of yards out being fired wide.
The second half started as the first had ended with Kidderminster pressing which created chances for Kirsty Roberts and Amber Lawrence but both fired high over the bar from around 20 yards out.
Slowly Gornal began to regain their composure and from a quick throw in Sarah Hamill- Moss delivered a ball into the Kidderminster area which wasn’t cleared by the defenders and Rachel Letford swivelled and volleyed over the outstretched arms of goal keeper Hannah Tromans and just under the bar to draw Gornal Level.
Gornal were now dominating the play and a through ball from centre half Stephanie Juszczyszyn found Letford who turned her marker and crossed for Drew Harris, arriving at the far post, to convert.
The third Gornal goal came when winger Levi Cheadle dispossessed the Kidderminster midflieder and set herself to shoot from 25 yards. Her shot was charged down but the ball fell to Gornals top scorer Rachel Letford who made no mistake firing past Tromans from 10 yards out to ensure the points for Gornal.
The win keeps Gornal in second place, three points behind leaders Solihull United with a game in hand.
Gornal will next take on Birmingham county premier league side Balls to Cancer Ladies in the first round of the Birmingham FA County Cup at Tipton sports academy, a competition they reached the semi finals of last season before being beaten by WBA Women..
