Match Report

A very positive performance by the team today, one which I got a great deal of pleasure watching the football we tried to play on a very tough pitch which had a slope across the pitch and periods of mud and boggy wide areas where difficult to keep footing.

The instructions were to put in place what we had trained at in the week with key areas of width and movement going forward, pressure on ball when lose it and decision making on overload situations. These were all visible in the performance throughout the game.

A controlled performance where every member of the squad put on a good performance creating multiple chances first half with Will heading narrowly wide from a wide cross.

Harrison unlucky on two occasions, firstly finishing off a team passing move with a composed finish but unfortunately flagged as an offside and then clipping the crossbar with a shot from outside the area.

Munashe made a very positive debut providing composure and close control cutting in from his position on left of midfield with Malik providing a crosses from wide to add to his trickery on ball and ball retention skills linking up with Olly H from a forward position.

Unfortunately a Withymoor break away meant Gornal went down 1-0 at half time with a deflected finish into the top corner.

Fresh legs entered at half time but the message was still the same keep going and the chances were come, more possession, more shots, more chances and more crosses than the opposition so no need to change the game plan.

Captain Olly B pushed into midfield to continue the good work that Owen and Harrison had provided in first half.

January’s Player of the month Kyle provided drive from the full back areas to start attacks and further chances were created without the goal coming.

A shot from Ryan followed which was palmed wide by the advancing goalkeeper with Harrison reacting first who was brought down for a penalty.

Will stepped up and although there were delays caused by the penalty spot being in a boggy hole there was only one outcome as Will finished with composure.

Other chances came as crosses from wide areas came in from Itai but unfortunately Withymoor were able to throw bodies infront to stop the winner we deserved. 1v1 full time and full of positives. Well done all 15 of squad today.

Man of match Malik who provided numerous crosses to add an end product to his hard work on the right wing.
